This was on my career bucket list.
Now that I’ve achieved it, I still can’t quite believe how it happened…
In the world of voiceover and audio production, the SOVAS (Society of Voice Arts and Sciences) Awards are the Oscars.
With the glossy red carpet awards held at Warner Bros. Studios in Hollywood, it’s the closest you can get to pure movie-magic.
Being the nervous type, I’ve never had the confidence to enter any of my work into the awards. When the opportunity has come around, year after year, I’ve found a seemingly endless list of reasons why I’d never make the cut.
Thankfully, I work with people who seem to believe in me more than I believe in myself.
Last year, the producers of a stunning, fully-cast audiobook that I voiced the female lead in, submitted the production for multiple SOVAS awards.
Then we were nominated for 4.
Then we won. Multiple times.
I am now the proud recipient of 2 SOVAS awards… and I didn’t even have the guts to enter my work for consideration.
I’m posting this because I know there are a lot of incredibly talented people in my network. Producers, videographers, audio engineers, writers, who may be struggling to back themselves up when awards season rolls around.
Self-esteem is not something that I am an expert in.
But it is something that I have at least a tiny bit more of, now that I have some “proof” of my ability and skillset, from these awards.
So please, take a moment to believe in yourself. More than I did.
Because you’re probably a lot better than you think you are.
